Yes, I wasn’t really satisfied by the article I’d planned to post for today. It was initially inspired by hearing a hilarious parody of late 1990s/early 2000s Nu Metal music by the US comedian Kyle Gordon.
This made me nostalgic and I started to write about how this angry, angst-ridden music seemed to co-exist with a culture which was less polarised and angry than elements of modern politics/social media. Of course, I naively drew a correlation between these two things and started writing about how this music should return, how it would be a safe outlet for the anger which drives people towards things like extreme politics these days etc…. But then I later realised how simplistic and naïve this viewpoint was, and I ditched the article.
Alas, the problems of this modern world cannot just be boiled down to “Not enough teenagers are listening to Limp Bizkit or Slipknot these days!“. If only it were that simple!
Anyway, as a quick replacement for that stupid article, here are some “work in progress” versions of three paintings which should hopefully be posted here next autumn. You can click on each painting to see a larger version.
Sorry about this quick replacement article, normal articles/reviews should hopefully resume tomorrow 🙂
