Very reluctantly, I’ve decided not to post any art today. Yes, I had a cartoon prepared but it was just so flawed that, even after deciding not to post it on DeviantART, I eventually decided not to post it here as well. So, what went wrong?
It was a cartoon which was supposed to be critical of generative A.I. This was my artistic intent, but I made a ridiculously stupid mistake with it that I didn’t spot until months later (thank goodness I prepare daily art… really… far in advance 
What did I do wrong? Well, it was the cartoon robot character who was supposed to symbolise generative A.I…. He looked far too adorable! Instead of being a fearsome foe to humanity itself, he looked more like “a friendly robot buddy”. Yes, a wolf in sheep’s clothing… but this didn’t come across well in the cartoon.
In other words, far from the cartoon being a cathartic “A.I. being defeated” thing – in the mould of those old WW2 cartoons of Superman punching fascists – the audience would feel sorry for the robot. The robot symbolising generative A.I.
And posting no art today seemed better than posting art that inadvertently drummed up sympathy and support for that technology. A technology which should be more heavily regulated. A technology which – at first – just seemed like a fun novelty and a technical marvel… but which has, in its various forms, posed a danger to human creativity, made heavy users stupider (since they apparently ask A.I. instead of thinking for themselves, since some people apparently use it to cheat on academic essays etc…), been aggressively pushed by corporations looking to “reduce labour costs” and enrich those at the top etc…
Yes, if generative A.I. had stayed in its early stages – a silly toy that was easily distinguishable from human creativity, which couldn’t be easily exploited by corporations to cheat humans out of money etc… then maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. I don’t know. Still, I’m not posting the cartoon. Sorry about this. At least it was real human error though. Normal daily art should resume tomorrow.
