Well, I hadn’t planned to make a satirical cartoon about US politics but I was starting to spiral into despair about the topic, and making a scathing cartoon felt like a way to restore some balance. Also, since – after the Jimmy Kimmel thing – Britain now seemingly has more freedom of speech than the US, I might as well actually use it.
And, yes, this is a comic about Trump trying to scapegoat, fear-monger about and demonise a minority group in order to distract from a certain set of files, from all of the unconstitutional and/or dictator-like stuff he’s doing, from the economic chaos that his protectionist policies have caused in the US etc… If you ever had to study GCSE History during the early-mid 2000s, you’ll probably recognise the playbook here and shudder…
