Simon & Schuster to Distribute Shortwave Publishing Titles Worldwide Starting December 2025
Shortwave Publishing has announced a major step forward in its growth: a worldwide distribution deal with Simon & Schuster, one of the Big Five publishers. Starting December 1, 2025, all new Shortwave titles will be distributed by Simon & Schuster to major outlets such as Barnes & Noble, Waterstones, Books-a-Million, Amazon, and independent bookstores across the globe.
These books will also appear in Simon & Schuster’s seasonal catalogs and on their website for direct sale, giving Shortwave’s authors a wider reach than ever before.
Founded in 2022 by Alan Lastufka, Shortwave Publishing has quickly built a reputation in speculative fiction, particularly in horror and dark sci-fi. In just three and a half years, the press has gone from releasing Lastufka’s debut novel Face the Night to publishing over a dozen titles annually. Its catalog includes standalone novelettes, chapbooks, and multi-book series, alongside lettered and numbered limited editions. Shortwave titles have already been featured in book subscription boxes, optioned for film and television, and recognized with nominations for major awards including the Bram Stoker, Hugo, Shirley Jackson, and Nebula.
“Three and a half years ago we launched with our first title, my debut novel Face the Night,” Lastufka said. “Since then, we’ve grossed over a quarter of a million dollars in sales this past year alone, all while working out of a spare bedroom with no sales team. Imagine what we’ll all be able to do together now with Simon & Schuster.”
Upcoming titles include Rest Stop and Other Nightmares by Nat Cassidy, Chimera Skin by Johnny Compton, Memories Are Only Valuable If They Can Be Lost by Ai Jiang, Traps and Specters by Philip Fracassi, and When by Jamie Flanagan.
With over 100 years of experience, Simon & Schuster sells more than a billion dollars’ worth of books each year, representing some of the most important works of the last century. The partnership will give Shortwave’s growing roster of authors a stronger presence in the marketplace and expand its ability to support horror and speculative fiction.
“It’s a very exciting time for genre fiction right now,” Lastufka said. “We’re thrilled to be a small part of it—and now, with this deal, an even bigger one.”
