Techland has a double whammy for Dying Light: The Beast fans. Not only has the team released a new trailer and devlog for the anticipated standalone adventure, but in celebration of 1 million players reserving their copy of of the game ahead of launch, Techland has announced that they’re bumping up the release date one day earlier to September 18.

First off, the new short-but-sweet trailer highlights protagonist Kyle Crane embracing the Beast within as the new gameplay mechanic, allowing him to be faster and deal more damage (and show off some gnarly gore). The trailer also shows off the mayhem that happens once the sun goes down, and the infected themselves become faster, stronger, and more aggressive.

And speaking of the zombies, Techland has a new devlog highlighting the new focus on the walking dead, highlighting their look, behaviour and sound. For instance, Biters, the most common infected, have undergone a complete redesign, and now appear rotten and organic as opposed to looking mummified. The team has also created “over 110 variants” of the Biter, showcasing a wide range of body types.

As for attacking, the zombies have again been revamped. Biters, when struck, will counter quickly with almost no cooldown. Another zombie type, Virals, show their aggression and reactivity through more human-like behavior, positioning themselves strategically in lieu of mindless assaults.

Turning back to the release date bump, not only will Dying Light: The Beast be released for PC and consoles a day earlier than originally scheduled, but as a special thank you to the community, everyone who has pre-ordered and everyone who joins them before launch will receive an exclusive new reward. Details will be revealed during launch week.

“Seeing the excitement from our community for the return of Kyle Crane in Dying Light: The Beast, and knowing the game is ready, we wanted to do something special for our players,” says Tymon Smektała, Dying Light Franchise Director. “We pushed ourselves to make the impossible possible, and that’s why we’re releasing the game a little earlier. I can’t wait to see players’ reactions when they finally step into the world of The Beast.”

Dying Light: The Beast will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.
